Club Spotlight: Knowledge Bowl

By Ashlynn Miles

The Centennialight

Knowledge Bowl Club, under the leadership of Mike Strobel, is a place for intellectual competition, community, and where students have the opportunity to expand knowledge on topics ranging from science to history, math, and current events. This club provides an intellectually challenging yet fun atmosphere for any student interested in problem-solving and learning.

Knowledge Bowl competitions involve a team of four students answering difficult questions in a quiz-style competition. It is an exemplary opportunity to develop one's potential in critical thinking, teamwork, and showcasing academic skillfulness. Students within the club meet each week to practice and prepare for the various competitions involved, developing not only knowledge but also teamwork and quick decision-making abilities.

Strobel said, "It's similar to Jeopardy or Trivial Pursuit. Teams compete for the most points in both written and oral rounds."

Strobel encourages all students to participate, emphasizing that engagement in this program will not only enhance their existing knowledge but also cultivate essential skills for their future endeavors. By joining, students can experience a supportive environment that fosters growth, collaboration, and a deeper understanding of their academic pursuits.

"Anybody can join! It's a great way to build your trivia knowledge through practice, and you'll also develop non-verbal communication skills, especially in the non-written rounds where talking is not allowed,” said Strobel. “I've found that students who are social and like reading tend to be well-prepared."

Membership is open to all students from any academic background. Anyone interested in trivia or thinking of trying something different is welcome to join. No prior experience is required, just an eagerness to learn and be active on the team.

For students looking forward to becoming more involved at Centennial, Knowledge Bowl offers just the right opportunity to meet new, similar people and expand horizons.

Meetings are held on various days after school in Room 1618, students interested in joining should speak to Mr. Strobel at school or reach him by email at michael.strobel@pueblod60.org.
